Is anxiety dangerous for your health?
Since anxiety is usually defined as worry and fear and since almost all of us have fears and worries about various things in our lives, people can easily say that they suffer from anxiety. However, certain fears and worries are considered to be normal simply because they are a normal reaction to the things around us. If your fear is rational, meaning that there is a sensible reason for it and if you can control your fear, it is considered to be normal. Also, if you worry about something in particular and if there is a sensible reason for your worry, you are probably not dealing with anxiety.
On the other hand, people who are diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder worry about everything so much that they have difficulties performing everyday activities. Typically, they can’t find the cause for their worries and fears, but when thinking about their problems, they almost always focus on the worst possible outcome. They are so preoccupied with worrying that they cannot even identify the problem, let alone try to find a solution.
Since generalized anxiety disorder can be caused by external factors such as stress and since people with mild anxiety, which is still considered to be normal, already have difficulties dealing with stress, their condition can grow into a disorder if left untreated. This means that anxiety is dangerous for your health without a doubt and you have to do everything in your power to deal with it properly.
However, do not panic just because you were little anxious one day. As it was already pointed out, anxiety, if defined as fear and worry, can be normal if it does not interfere with your life. It is normal for you to worry from time to time, especially if there is a problem that you are trying to solve or if there is a difficult situation that you know you will find yourself in. Being nervous and anxious is normal in these cases and thus not dangerous for your health.
All in all, anxiety can be potentially dangerous for your health, if you feel that way all the time and if you can’t seem to find the cause for it. Try to remain rational when you think about the things in your life and try not to worry about the things that you can do nothing about. Since people with anxiety disorders have irrational fears and worries, try to remain as rational as you can.
